What it Takes to be an Award-Winning Home Builder

As custom home builders, we pour time, energy, expertise, and creativity into every project we get the chance to work on, which is why it means a lot to us when one of our homes receives recognition! Recently, we took home 6 awards at the Midwest Home Awards as a testament to our dedication to quality craftsmanship, innovative design, and most of all, our commitment to collaboration in quality homes!

Best Laundry Room Design

We earned first place for the laundry room in our custom Rochester home, a collaborative effort with Chirigos Designs and KA Designs. This space redefines the potential of a mudroom-laundry combo, featuring:

  • Ample natural light (a rarity for such spaces) with views of a sprawling 50-acre property.

  • Functional storage custom-designed for a busy family with three young children.

  • A seamless indoor-outdoor transition, leading directly to a future pool area.

The design of this space definitively proved that functional rooms can still be a centerpiece!

Best Millwork

This award recognized our Dayton Lodge project with a second-place win, designed in collaboration with Shadow Falls Design and Mary Wozniak. The home featured:

  • Extensive use of reclaimed timber, including Manoomin and Doug fir imported from Montana.

  • Custom millwork that beautifully complements the home’s lodge-style architecture.

The craftsmanship and attention to detail in this home elevated it to award-winning status!

Whole Home Remodel

Our biggest win of the night was the Whole Home Remodel award for a Minneapolis project, completed with Julia Miller from Yond Interiors and Carl Elderberg of KA Designs. Located near Lake Harriet, this custom remodel was dubbed the “Color Remodel” for its daring (and successful!) use of color.

 Highlights included:

  • A deep burgundy plaster powder room with a marble sink sourced from Istanbul, Turkey.

  • A mustard yellow pantry, pastel plum bathrooms, and a rich blue study.

  • A bold, complex design vision executed with precision.

This win—the top honor in its category—meant so much to us as custom builders, especially when considering how competitive the other entries were. This project hinted that neutrals are losing steam as more and more custom homeowners embrace color!

Additional Wins for the Minneapolis Remodel:

We also took home a first-place win for the use of color throughout the remodel, a first-place win for powder-room design, and a third-place award for kitchen design. The kitchen design was especially noteworthy as we managed to create a functional and beautiful layout within the 20-250 square feet category!

Award-Winning Home Builder

Why These Builder Awards Matter

While everyone likes to be rewarded for a job well done, these wins are more than trophies to us. They represent our commitment to, and the power of, collaboration. None of this would be possible without our talented design partners, including Bridget Sherigus of Sherigus Designs, Julia Miller and her team at Yond Interiors, and Mary Wozniak of Shadow Falls Design.

Together, we’ve created homes that not only met but exceeded our clients’ expectations. It also highlights the importance of choosing a builder who values design excellence!
