Creating the Ultimate Custom Laundry Room
When designing a custom home, every room should reflect the homeowner’s personality and lifestyle- including the laundry room. For one of our recent projects, we got the chance to create a space that not only meets the daily demands of washing and drying dirty laundry but also serves as a vibrant craft room and a playful space for the entire family. This unique room is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can transform a traditionally utilitarian space into a room you love!
A Multifunctional Space
Our client wanted her laundry room space to be more than just a place for chores. It needed to be a bright, inviting space where she could do laundry and store essentials, but that could also serve as a flex art room for her kids. Natural light was a must, as was a fun, playful color scheme that would inspire creativity. The result is a custom laundry room that doubles as a craft room, complete with a center island featuring hidden tray racks for drying oil and watercolor paintings. To top it off, there’s a dedicated wrapping station, making holiday and gift-giving prep a breeze.
A Splash of Color
The whole project was fun to take on, but one of our favorite features is the use of color. We wanted the space to feel lively and welcoming, so we incorporated a playful tile pattern on the floor that immediately catches the eye. The combination of bright, bold hues and intricate patterns adds an element of fun and whimsy, making laundry feel less like a chore and more like a creative escape (or at least a fun place to try and locate your missing socks)!
Our Favorite Features
One of our favorite details is the use of pocket doors with translucent glass panels. These doors not only save space but also allow natural light to filter into the hallway when closed, maintaining the laundry room's bright and open feel. It's these small, thoughtful design elements that make the space both practical and beautiful.
The Pella windows were another key element, providing plenty of natural light while maintaining the room’s vibrant look. These beautiful windows are equipped with roll screens integrated into the window sash, allowing the family to enjoy a summer breeze without worrying about bugs. This feature bridges the gap between the home and outside fun, making it feel even more spacious and airy.
