Why we can’t get enough of Front Porch Living

When it comes to designing a custom home, one feature we can't get enough of is an elevated, spacious front porch and entryway. Summer and Fall time in Minnesota are meant to be enjoyed and what better way to do that than with an outdoor living space? Some of our favorite projects over the years have been those custom homes that capitalize on their outdoor space to create a welcoming, family-friendly environment to be enjoyed by both homeowners and guests alike.

Maximizing Outdoor Space

This stunning Dayton Lodge is the perfect example. While the entire house is worth exploring, it's the outdoor living spaces that immediately capture your attention. The paved pathway draws you into the home while the screened-in porch with dining area invites you to stay. Who wouldn't want to start a fire in the stunning stone fireplace and relax on that back deck with dinner drinks and good conversation - and then enjoy a dip in the pool?

An Invitation to Entertain

Another idyllic example is this country-living home. Set on five beautiful acres, the cozy white porch still manages to be the focal point of the build. The wraparound style gives more than enough room for everyone to gather while keeping you close enough to visit with the whole party. With plenty of extra seating and even a cozy porch swing, this stunning deck provides everything the homeowner needs to enjoy a beautiful Minnesota sunset with the whole extended family.

Modernizing Front Porches

For a modern twist on the front porch living trend, this ranch house in the middle of Medina's horse country has plenty to offer. A light wood with white trim helps the veranda to pop and plenty of comfortable seating sets the stage for a glass of sweet tea and a Minnesota summer afternoon. This type of deck capitalizes on the love of outdoor space without taking away from the spacious yard, giving the clients the best of both worlds and a perfect example for those who want to make use of their outdoor space in a more minimalistic way.

Neighborhood Front Porch Living

Lastly, this cottage farmhouse managed to blend the client's personal style with the joys of porch life. The classic stonework and wide columns invite you in with an elegant flare, while the large windows and wide deck give everything you need for porch dining during a weekend barbecue. Settled in a beautiful neighborhood, this home showcases that front porch living isn't just for those nestled on lots of land. It's a nostalgic call-back to the days when neighbors visited together and watched the children play in the front yard, extending your home environment beyond your front door.

Made to Last

The outdoor living trend is here to stay. No matter the style of your custom home, an outdoor space you can enjoy with friends and family is a feature that will only continue to provide value to the home: both in resale and in the countless memories to be made there. When designing your living space it's well worth it to consider turning your entryway into a gathering place for years to come.
